AWANA is an acronym standing for Approved Workmen Are Not Ashamed based on 2 Timothy 2:15, Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
AWANA is an international organization with over 8000 clubs around the world and over one million children involved in AWANA clubs. You can visit their website at www.awana.org.
AWANA is an exciting, Bible-based, weekly club program. It meets at Sayre Woods on Tuesday nights (7:00-8:30PM) during the school year (September-May). We offer four AWANA clubs at Sayre Woods:
-
CUBBIES. For three and four year old boys and girls. Cubbies uses non-competitive games and activities and simple Bible lessons to teach kids about Jesus and His love for them. Cubbies also involves parents in the teaching and learning process through activities in the Cubbie handbook which can be done at home during the week.
-
SPARKS. For boys and girls in kindergarten through the 2nd grade. Each Sparks club meeting includes fun games, singing and an age-appropriate Bible lesson, and handbook time where kids recite Bible verses and complete activities for awards.
-
T&T (Truth & Training). For boys and girls in 3rd through 6th grade. T&T includes an exciting game time, singing and an age-appropriate Bible lesson, and handbook time where kids recite Bible verses and complete activities for awards.
-
JV (Junior Varsity). For 7th and 8th graders. JV involves junior highers through competitive games, music, and creative and relevant Bible lessons. There is also a handbook which offers junior highers an opportunity to memorize Bible verses and complete service projects for awards.
Throughout the AWANA year there are also special events such as the AWANA Grand Prix, the statewide AWANA games competition, and the statewide AWANA Bible Quizzing Tournament. Theme nights, such as Crazy Hat Night, Football Night, and Backwards Night, also keep the fun and creativity of the AWANA year at a premium.
AWANA registration begins at the end of August or in early September. Registration for the year is usually between $10-15 per child. Handbook and AWANA club shirt cost between $15-20. These are the only costs during the year except for special events. Discounts and scholarships are available for those with financial need.
